Webinar at the EUPHA Public Health Week 2026
Capacity building and knowledge generation is important for strengthening and supporting a health workforce working with vulnerable migrant populations like refugees and internally displaced persons (IDP). An initiative implemented by the Center for Health and Migration (Austria), the International Organization for Migration, and an international expert group, and funded by the Austrian Government provides online courses for health and social care professionals and conducts co-creative knowledge generation in the East and Horn of Africa region. By 2025, the program has trained 424 health and social care professionals. Building on this, a 2026 knowledge generation program brings together researchers and practitioners from the Global North and Global South to integrate academic knowledge and insights from practitioners.
This webinar discusses the initiative’s contribution for strengthening a workforce working with refugees and IDP in different settings, as well as experiences from practice that can inform public health practice across Europe and Africa.
